Mariah's investigation into her father's death has her reminiscing on her career as a Pulitzer award-winning journalist. In 2010, Mariah turns to her father as she questions her future with Howard while her career hangs.

Tal enlists the help of his colleague to track Kimmer's whereabouts. Furthering their investigation, Tal and Mariah look to an old friend of The Judge for answers. Back in 2017, The Judge confides in his son, Addison.

Stuck on a clue that The Judge left behind, Tal turns to his father's old chess buddy for help. Mariah seeks the help of an old colleague to dig up information on Jack Ziegler. In 1997, The Judge accompanies Tal as he competes in a chess tournament.
